    Note Emmart op. cit. notes that Siméon must be in error in translating uitzquilitl as cardoon, since the later is not native to Mexico. The Badianus MS (Pls 10,73) illustrates a thistle (Circium sp.). Santamaria op.cit. II 82 describes it (güisquelitl) as, 'En Méjico especie de alcachofa' (artichoke). And Dib VIII 68 n. 19.
